Battery Energy Storage Integration in Gibraltar’s Power Grid
Circet led the development of the Gibraltar BESS project at North Mole Power Station, a strategic initiative designed to strengthen the stability and sustainability of the territory’s electricity grid. The project involved the installation of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to modernize local energy infrastructure and support the transition to a lower‑carbon energy system.

Our approach
Deploying battery storage to modernize the grid
Replacing auxiliary diesel generation with battery storage
The project consisted of installing a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to replace auxiliary diesel generators with high‑capacity battery storage solutions that are safer, more efficient and more environmentally-friendly.
Integrated civil, mechanical and electrical works
We carried out civil, mechanical and electrical works, including the installation of battery containers, power conversion systems and a medium‑voltage substation as part of the overall BESS infrastructure.
Connection to strategic power infrastructure
The BESS infrastructure was connected to North Mole Power Plant, as well as to the Water Port and S36 distribution centers, ensuring seamless integration into Gibraltar’s electricity network.
